In 1962, the Aero Union Corp. was operating its first two air tankers, a TB-25N Mitchell (N9865C) and a B-17G Flying Fortress (N9323Z) shown flying out of Redding CA. The company was founded by Richard E. Foy and Dale P. Newton as Western Air Industries, Anderson CA, in 1959. The name was later changed to Aero Union Corp. in 1962. Aero Union was a major player in developing equipment and techniques for aerial firefighting and operated the largest fleet of fire attack aircraft in the industry.
