Banner Chase

 

In early 1942, these P-40Es are preparing to add a few more holes to the already shredded target banner being towed by an A-24 Banshee. Aircraft #50 was flown by Captain Phillip G Cochran, Squadron Commander of the 65th Fighter Squadron, 57th Fighter Group flying out of Groton Connecticut. Aircraft #51 was flown by Flight leader Lt. Art Salisbury. Phil Cochran would eventually see combat with the 33rd Fighter Group in North Africa, and later as co-commander of the 1st Air Commando Group in Burma.
