In 1967 the USAF's 609th Special Operations Squadron began flying covert counter insurgency missions into Laos from their base in Thailand. On Mark Engineering, remanufactured these WWII bombers as B-26Ks with more powerful engines with "paddle blade" props, strengthened hard points, and many other upgrades. in 1966 they were re-designated A-26A "Counter Invader" for political reasons. With their ability to loiter and carry a large and versatile weapons load, they were especially effective against enemy supply routes.
