"Reno Gold, 1965"

This painting depicts the start of the 1965 Gold Championship Race at the Sky Ranch Airfield near Reno Nevada (The 1964 and 1965 races were the only ones held at the widely disliked airport due to the crude runway surface and the constant blowing dust) Bob hoover has called "Gentlemen, you have a race" and is pulling up and off the course to go into his safety observer orbit. Darryl Greenamyer (Race # 1)would take first at 375.10 mph after Chuck Lyford (Race # 8) had his engine backfire and damage the intake scoop but still managed a second-place finish at 368.57 mph. Clay Lacy (Race # 64) battled with Mira Slovak (Race # 80) and held on to take third place at 356.97 mph, with Slovak finishing fourth at 356 mph.

Not pictured were Walt Ohlrich in his Bearcat " Toms Cat/Tonopah Queen" (Race # 10) finishing fifth ahead of Lyle Shelton in his Mustang "Tonopah Miss" (Race # 12) in sixth place.
