'Whidbey SAR'

In 2024, I was privileged to tour the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station as the guest of fellow ASAA and U.S. Navy resident artist Doug Rowe. We were given broad access to the entire facility and all the personnel were extremely patient with our questions and welcomed us with enthusiastic support for our 'mission' to document and preserve Navy aviation history through art. Navy Rescue man Lt. David Suh generously allowed me to borrow images he took while performing training and actual rescue missions in the rugged Pacific Northwest. This painting depicts a night training mission in one of the three Sikorsky MH-60S 'Seahawk' helicopters assigned to Station SAR (search and rescue) Whidbey Island which involved flying very close to some very large rocks.

I was honored to receive the American Society of Aviation Artists annual James V Roy Jr. award (best in show) at the 2025 forum and exhibition at the NMUSAF.
